.net - Storing XML Audit data to File System or to MS Access table? -

My program requires auditing saved XML data for users. Whenever the user clicks on 'Save'; I'll need to include my current data (serialized for XML) and save it somewhere between what is a better option:

  1. Creating a text file and leaving all XML there .
  2. Using a table in MS Access

I am using Net 2.0 / MS Access 2003

  • Ability to query

  • With XML files on file system < / Li>
  • The ability to backup data of transactions
  • With XML files on file system, you need to come up with 'unique file' strategies The naming can remove and restrictions of many files that can be stored per folder etc.

In some RDBMS, XML is a first class data type (unfortunately, not for MS Access), so:

    • It is possible to ask your XML using XPath Is, like using XQuery.
    • In many RDBMS (for example SQL Server), it is also possible to create indexes in XM for better performance of the above questions.

However, access, you will need to store in A with A.

TL; DR : If you are already using the database, then store XML in it.
